The ROAR run (#4)

This just proves running is fun.

ROAR (Reach out and Run for missions! my favorite fund raiser yet)  is my 4th race, ya'll followed all of them

You are probably sick of seeing me run, lol!

Well I ain't done yet, cooler weather is coming and this has become a family thing! I am anxious to improve my time in the fall.

Look at my baby's form, I love that kid. She wanted new athletic shoes, I made a deal with her- she runs in the Velma race if I bought them. Worked!

She loved racing with her daddy. Cody did this with her then turned around and decided to run the 5k too, stud!

She the gal in the black shirt? She beat me today, I beat her in Velma. Competitions tough in the 30-34 age bracket!

Well Silas likes to start fast. He has things to learn.

Cody on the other hand does not.

But as you will see it's not how you start it's how you finish....

Speaking of finish....

Here I came.....

"Mom, can I blah blah blah blah......."

" Mom, did you hear me? Blah blah blah blah blah blah"

"Mom, why are you breathing so hard? Are you dying?"

(Heavy panting and grasping for air) "Yes dear daughter? Did you say something?"

"Well you look a little weird...."

"Yes dear daughter I am trying to breath, thanks for that frank assessment.
And you will be old one day too trying to do young people things and be grasping for breath, do you want to know more about aging?"

"No here comes dad"

My man finished strong!

Then ran in beside Silas when he came.

Silas stayed with me till the first mile and begged me to slow down.

But momma said no.

That's the kind of mom I am.

Take me or leave me.

I had to stay up with this young lady!

My friend Traci, we ran in Velma and figured out we were same age group- makes running more fun. I hate running against a friend though.

We both medaled today!

Along with Mr. Incredible,

Who did a literal couch to 5K- he hasn't run since the velma race, drank 2 cokes yesterday and stayed up till midnight watching Avatar then got up and ran/jogged 4.2 miles today earning 2nd place!

There's a lot to say for just "showing up" and doing it!

So last run of the "hot season"

I medaled all 3 times they gave medals away....

And every time I got second...

At least I am consistent . And in good company.

I thought I had #1 today, didn't know black shirt girlfriend was my age group. Seriously thought she was a teenager.

So I guess my new theme is

And guess what.....

We already have a complete line of stuff....

I have a birthday in September!

Even in Spanish! Speaking of Espanol I am teaching my kids spanish...mantente informado (stay tuned)

And lookie what we have here.....

help me Lawd, I think I want one....

( I am second is actually a neat movement, you can find out more here

And here is where to find the stuff

My Mother, The Saint

Several weeks ago my dear mother went on a mission trip.

Her job- to make sure these three people didn't blow up things, stayed fed and generally safe while their parents celebrated 15 years of marriage in the pacific northwest.

Only mothers do these kind of mission trips.

And they don't get enough credit, thanks or financial and prayer support usually.

After I left I made the comment on facebook, "My mother is a Saint"

To which my missionary friend in Spain replys, "What were her 3 miracles?"

He knows about sainthood.

So here they are, for those who need to know, her 3 miracles she has preformed....

1. She has remained married to this man for 47 years.

2. She has birthed 4 people which has lead to this.....

 and this was the clincher....

3. When I left for Seattle my microwave was an eco-system in and of itself, I had closed my eyes for months trying to will it away and then when I returned from my trip
it was miraculously clean and holy again.

Amen.

Long live Saint Granny.

The evolution of scrapbooking

I am trying disparately to catch up on some ongoing scrapbooks I have.

I am fully aware of the need to perserve history and the wonderful benefits of scrapbooks. I love the ones I have. But we are making more memories than I have time to document.

I bought this book 12 years ago

Scrapbooking was too expensive and too time consuming and quite overwhelming if you ask me. But I had gone to a in home party of a dear friend and after enjoying the creativity of it thought I might be able to do this. One page a year. An anniversary book. We'd been married a few years and in trying to make up for our honeymoon we had found ourselves taking trips each year on our anniversary. I resolved to do this. Besides it was a great way to make sure we spent time on our marriage and celebrated it.

In adding to the album from our recent trip I thought it funny how the book it self showed the change in my scrapbooking creativity.

This was one of the original pages. Color coordination. Use of scissors with different cuts.

cute coordinating sticker sets, oval cut out pictures

2 kids later...still going with this style and added pen embellishments,

use of brochures and color mattes

Remember the gingham galore?

We used sticker letters and acid free paper and cut things to align just so

Then you started seeing a slight change

no more matching stickers, one color only, little creative effort

You start seeing more use of the computer

Which leads us to the last 2 years.....

Life got crazy busy around Oct 2007, luckily the world is trying to help me out. Photo collages are my life now!

I love them. For $2 I got 20 pics on 1 page ( I plan on being married 50 years I need to conserve space), a nice title, lots of color and it took all of 10 min. I used to estimate 1 hour per scrapbook page.

You can do them at Walmart but I have recently discovered Walgreens. They offer weekly coupon codes and I can pick them up next day!

2 years ago I started doing the online books where you design the book and order it. Those are getting better and better, too.

I also print my blog.  A type of online sharing and scrapbooking combined.

My hope is that in 5 generations people who descend from me yet have no idea who I am will know Christ because of the things I leave behind.
